Central Baptist Church of Johnson City, TN is seeking a Senior Pastor, following the retirement on October 1, 2025 of Dr. Tommy Hood. Desirable candidates will have an advanced degree from a Baptist seminary (doctorate preferred), a minimum of 10 years of relevant full-time ministry experience, preferably having led a team in a multi-staff setting, and possess spiritual maturity, biblical integrity, and heart for shepherding God’s people.
The role of the Senior Pastor includes, but is not limited to:
• Preaching and teaching the Gospel to instruct and challenge believers toward growth in their relationship to Christ and to evangelize non-believers toward salvation.
• Leading Bible studies and supporting other church activities led by the ministerial staff and lay leaders.
• Guiding, mentoring, and encouraging Central’s talented, energetic ministerial staff and its dedicated professional staff.
• Fostering a vision compatible with Central’s current strategic plan, its longstanding emphasis on local and global missions, and its priority to reach young families and students.
• Providing pastoral care and spiritual counsel to all members of the congregation from children through senior adults.

Job Responsibilities:

Proofing church publications
Assist with other duties as needed to support the ministry staff and ministry assistants to ensure all preparations are completed for Sunday and other special events
Operations/Administration
Manage and maintain the church activity calendar through the activator process
Coordinate scheduling for Door Guards and Officers
Oversee transportation logistics, including shuttle keys, driver lists, and scheduling
Prepare and organize mail and bulk mailings and envelopes for church communications

Work Schedule & Office Hours:
For the purpose of carrying out the duties and responsibilities set forth in this job
description, the Receptionists work week shall consist of 30 hours per week, 6 hours per day, unless circumstances change (vacation, holidays, sickness of other Ministry Assistants). The schedule shall be determined by the Director of Media & Administration and the Personnel Committee. The normal schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM with a 1 hour lunch break.
Salary:
$17.00/hr, 30 hrs/week
Door Guard stands at glass doors (just inside or outside) and observes parking lot for any unusual persons or activity, welcomes entrants with a smile, assists anyone with mobility issues, full hands, or the elderly, exercises discretion when admitting strangers (ask if they need assistance, direction, etc.), and holds the door for those exiting and remain outside to ensure they get to their vehicles safely, and offer to accompany anyone who appears to need an escort to their vehicles.
Hours vary but following is an example schedule:
Sunday: 2:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Monday: 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Tuesday: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Wednesday: 4:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Friday: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Hourly Pay:
$15.00/hour
